Iranian reciter honored at Malaysia Quran contest

TEHRAN – Iranian reciter Mokhtar Dehqan won the second prize at the 60th International Al-Quran Recital and Memorizing Assembly in Malaysia on Saturday. 

The winners in the categories of reciting and memorization received their prizes from Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V during the closing ceremony held at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Sunday.

A Malaysian reciter, whose name was not mentioned in the report, won the first prize.

Iranian reciters are frequent competitors at the International Al-Quran Recital and Memorizing Assembly every year. They have also won prizes at the contest.

Hamed Alizadeh won the first prize at the 59th edition of the competition in 2017.

Mohsen Haji-Hassani Kargar took first place at the 57th edition of the event. 

Mohammad-Taqi Morovvat, Ahmad Abolqasemi and Ali Sayyah Gorji were also among the Iranian top winners of the contest in previous editions.
